Parmesan Herb Breadsticks

Last month I made breadsticks to go along with some pasta Dallan and I were eating.  Carbs and carbs.  Doesn’t get much better that. Why, oh why, do I do this to myself?  While perusing through breadstick recipes on Allrecipes.com, I found a recipe for Parmesan Herb Breadsticks.  Yum, yum, yum!  I ended up munching on the leftover breadsticks all week long.

 PARMESAN HERB BREADSTICKS

Ingredients

  • 1 1/8 cups water (70 to 80 degrees F)
  • 2 tablespoons olive or canola oil
  • 3 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons minced fresh basil (or 1 teaspoon Dried Basil)
  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon butter or stick margarine, melted

Directions

WITH A BREAD MACHINE: In bread machine pan, place the first nine ingredients in order suggested by manufacturer. Select dough setting (check dough after 5 minutes of mixing; add 1 to 2 tablespoons of water or flour if needed). When cycle is completed, turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Divide into 20 portions. Shape each into a ball; roll each into a 9-in. rope. Place on greased baking sheets. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 45 minutes – 1 hour or until doubled. Bake at 350 degrees F for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Remove to wire racks. Brush warm breadsticks with butter and sprinkle with crumbled parmesan (optional).

WITHOUT A BREAD MACHINE: In a small mixing bowl, mix together sugar, water and yeast.  Let mixture stand for 10 minutes.  Then, add oil and all dry ingredients except flour.  Pour this mixture into flour and mix well.

Enjoy!
