During one of the semesters of my LENGTHY college career, I decided I was going to enter the medical field. In one of my many science labs we gathered cultures with ginormous Q-tips from all over the classroom. The list included: Desks, chairs, door-handles, pencil sharpeners, staplers, computer equipment, toilets, and drinking fountains. (yes, toilets) After cultivating these samples in petri dishes for a week we examined the growths under microscopes. Let me just tell you that the germs on the pencil sharpeners, desks, and staplers were no different then the TOILET!
That being said, cleaning your desk should not be ignored. It’s a breeding ground for germs.
Although cleaning = Good, Chemical Cleaner= BAD!
The last thing you want to do is wipe down your desk area with chemically harsh cleaner. Breathing in ammonia as you work wont make work go any easier or make you feel any better! Here are some great choices for everyday/desk cleaning.
Clean Well has cleaning products. I wanted to showcase their Hand Sanitizers because they are great for quick cleaning. These would also be great for the kids. Send your child to school with a few packets and instructions to wipe their hands and desk surfaces 1x a day.
If you happen to have essential oils around your house, then make your own natural cleaning spray. I happened to have Lavender, Eucalyptus, and Peppermint around my house so I made my own concoction.
(excuse the bad pictures)
- Fill an extra small spray bottle with 1 cup of distilled H2O
- If you have three or more essential oils add 2 smidgens of each to the water
- Gently mix
Now, essential oil mixtures aren’t going to kill 99.9% of germs like many natural cleaners promise, but they will work. To target tough germs the following oils have been proven to fight bacteria and prevent infections:
Tea Tree*Geranium*Cinnamon Bark*Clove*Lemon*Peppermint*Thyme*Eucalyptus
