Dusting the Day Away

Lately I’ve had an obsession with dust. Dust seems to be accumulating at a crazy rate in my house. I constantly see dust on tables, walls, picture frames, and blinds. My husband tells me that its normal, but I’m 99% sure he is lying to keep me from doing something radical. I swear to him that I’ve never experienced so much dust in my entire life and he always replies with, “Well you were raised by Debbie.” Ummm I don’t understand how my being raised by Debbie completely zeroes out my concerns, however it seems to be the end of every Dust conversation we’ve had this month. Yes, Debbie is clean. Yes, I grew up in a house that had vacuum marks in at least 3 rooms at all time. Yes, we scoured our bathrooms hardcore 2x a week. That does not mean though that dust is just something that happens! Argh. Seriously, this dust situation has me thinking of renting some sort of air filtration/humidifier to clean out the air in my home.

Anyway, today I spent a large portion of my day dusting my bedroom from ceiling to floor. Literally. With mop in hand I wiped down the ceiling, fan blades, walls, blinds and baseboards. I also washed every piece of textile in my room. (Washing my bedding is an obsession too.)

Dusting was going ok until I discovered that my drapes had fell victim to dust too. I guess I get so focused on surfaces that I fail to notice the dust accumulating on drapes. With a dust meltdown threatening to consume me, I put on a brave face and decided it was time to SAVE MY DRAPES!

Today I only had time to vacuum and lint-roll my drapes, however I’m hoping to find an easy tutorial for deep cleaning them. Any ideas? Do you steam your drapes? Spray? Help…

Yes this is a picture of my mattress and memory foam. Tacky, but I love it. Also, I am aware that there is a knob missing from my nightstand.

There is nothing like stripping off dirtied bedding and waiting for the fresh sheets, coverlet, and pillow cases to get out of the dryer!

The minute I completed making my bed Piper of course had to soil my perfectly cleaned space. Luckily I’m more obsessed with her then cleaning. What a vicious cycle.

This is me finally getting done with D-day around 5:30 pm. After all my hard work I was tempted to climb into bed and take a short nap… but realizing I hadn’t showered today, I quickly gave up the notion and moved my dirty-self to the family room floor.

Tomorrow Dusting 2.0 will begin and I will be one room closer to a less dusty home.

If you have any tips that would ease my dusting/drape burdens, please tell me.

Kiersten - Our apt collects so much dust it’s disgusting. It gives me the worst allergies, I hate it. I know how you feel!!! Cute post, your room looks so soothing and beautiful!

LittleRus - I started reading this post and said to myself “I wonder what she would do if there was a dog around?” And then I got to the end and it made me laugh… :D I am obsessed with dust too as well as dog hair (I have a cocker boy). I love him dearly, but having a dog means that bed linens do have to be changed very often. I kills me, especially the fact that he always seems to be the first one to enjoy the fresh linens… :) Unfortunately, I love him to pieces…

No idea how to deal with the curtains, though. We hoover them or take to the dry cleaners.

Jen Sherwood - eeew, don’t come to my house then!! Having a gravel driveway = ALOT of dust ALL the time. I just gave up on it!

Candice - I hate dust but unfortunately with having five animals in our apartment, dirt, hair and dust becomes part of your daily life. I have to set aside one day to clean our place from top to bottom (thank goodness it’s not that big!). Hey, love that blanket in the last picture. What’s it made from?

Alexa Hall - Oh my gosh Keigh! Love it. One day your son in law will say to your daughter…”Well you were raised my Miss Keighley”. :) Your bedroom is so pretty. I just want to plop on it and take a nap…I don’t know how you didn’t. Can’t help you with the drapes son, I have none.

keighley - LittleRus- Luckily my Schnauzer doesn’t shed but she can smell something fierce when crawling all over my sheets. I may take my drapes to the dry cleaners

keighley - Candice- You have five animals in your apartment? How are you surviving? Its a testament I guess to how animals can wrap us around their fingers… I have no idea what the blanket is made from but you can get it at IKEA! Here is the link. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60131593

keighley - I dont know about that Alex. Im nowhere near my mom in cleaning and organization status. Frankly, I have no idea how she did it? Either she is superwoman or Diet Coke was extra strong back then..

Luckily I only have drapes in my bedroom because they are trashing me.
