Last week I had a cupcake decorating night at my house. As I rushed to come up with a variety of frostings, I came across a whipped oreo recipe. With limited time, I printed out the recipe, ran to the store for supplies, and whipped up the frosting. Being that I’m not super capable in the kitchen I forgot to taste the frosting until I was completely done. As I tasted my first sampling I was underwhelmed. If I’m underwhelmed then you know its bad. I don’t have a very refined palate so I rarely taste something and think, “hmmmmm this needs a hint of cinnamon.” Well, this frosting got me thinking that way… I guess there’s a first time for everything.
Knowing that this frosting had potential I decided I’d take a stab at it when I had more time. Well, yesterday I got mixing. I didn’t have enough time to make a homemade cupcake mix, but I managed to whip up a new and improved oreo frosting recipe.
Ingredients:
- 2 Cups Heavy Whipping Cream
- 1 tsp Vanilla
- 1/2 cup Powdered Sugar
- 6-8 Oreos Cookies
In a clean bowl, combine the whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. With an electric mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, beat on medium-high speed until the whipped cream starts to thicken and hold stiff peaks. Next, pull apart each oreo cookie and scrape off frosting with a knife. Once the oreo cookies are frost-free, place in a plastic lunch bag and mash until they become small crumbs. Pour oreo cookie crumbs into the bowl and gently fold into the whipping cream with spatula.
