Update: Decorating the Nursery (Part II)

I’m pushing the 37 week mark and starting to panic over all the things I need to wrap up at work before I take maternity leave.  Just when I think I’m making progress on my To-Do list five more things get added to it.  I guess I just need to face the reality that I’ll never feel like I’m 100% ready to take maternity leave – that’s life.  But, I am hoping this little girl stays put for at least 2 more weeks.  Besides, I don’t have my hospital bags packed yet and the car seat isn’t in the car.  Speaking of hospital bags, I have a question for all of you moms.  What are the top three items you consider MUST haves in the hospital bag?

Anyways, what you guys don’t see (behind the cameras) is that my house looks like it’s been inhabited by the Grinch.  I hardly put up any Christmas decorations because my theory is  – what goes up, must come down and I don’t want to take down Christmas decorations between diaper changes and feeding.  Although I’ve been slacking in the Christmas decor department, I have been slowly working on the baby’s room.  Her rug came this week and I think it really helps pull the room together.  Here is a sneak peek.

Disclaimer: I snapped this shot as the sun was going down so the lighting isn’t that great.

Green Baby

Debs and I are going to hit up a few stores tomorrow to purchase decor knick knacks.  This is one of my favorite parts of decorating because it really adds that finishing touch.  Stay tuned!

Ashley - Um, my baby is due next week and guess what…all I have is a portacrib set up in the guest room and a few necessities and clothing items! Way to go Cam. You are actually really prepared for baby. I hope that work wraps up nicely for you in the next couple weeks so you can enjoy your baby when she comes.

camberley - You’re allowed to only have a portacrib in the guest room because it’s your third. Besides, you are busy chasing Kelson and Katelyn around. ;)

Kalli - Some of my must-haves for the hospital bag would be the Lansinoh cream, my body pillow (kept in the car for probably the day after), and a gown/giant t-shirt

Julia - I’m actually just under four weeks away from baby #2. Baby #1 just turned 16 months last week. Jealous yet? Anyway, I have to say forget every list you read, all you need are:
    1. iPad
    2. nighties (like the lingerie-esque but cotton and classy variety), a wrap, and a good long robe.
    3. self-tanner & hairspray (can make you look good in pictures after any birthing trauma)
    4. favorite pillow and at least 1-2 pillow cases per day

You’ll be entertained, comfy, and look good.
#4 is because you’ll sweat and the hospital will change your sheets but not your pillow case since you brought it from home. learned this one the hard way :)

Good luck with that sweet baby girl, you’re going to just ADORE her!!!

Marianne - I can’t wait to see your little gal!!!!
For the hospital, I’m always frantically packing between contractions trying to get out the door. The things I want to take are things I use every day, so I don’t see the point in packing early. :) But, I would say my top three things are: baby outfit including blanket and bow for photo ops, comfy slippers, camera! (but that one might be too obvious so instead….), my phone. sad, i know.

Ann Burr - OK, for the hospital bag: lip balm, socks (warm, cozy ones), and a nursing nightgown. Here’s why: your lips will be dry dry dry! You feet will be COLD. And there will be many (MANY) photos snapped at any moment and you want to be comfortable and yet not look like a nightmare. I had an amazing nursing nightgown that I wore after both kids and loved, I’ll try to find a link… Good luck, and happy happy baby!! That’s a lovely nursery for the little one to come home to!

Camille - Make sure you have your fave pillow with you. It makes the hospital bed a million times more bearable. Some yummy little snack were nice to have too since the hospital I was in had pretty gross food. Anything you can imagine needing on a super cozy sick day you will be greatful for. Oh and check any modesty you have left after all of those intrusive checkups pre baby. It all goes out the door pretty quick! Good luck! My baby is only 5 months old and I am already missing the magic a brand new baby brings into your life. Enjoy very fleeting moment!

Former (!)nSingle Mom Seeking - Woo eee! I just wanted to check in to see how you’re doing.

I’m starting to make my “baby lists,” too. Must haves for the hospital?

    1. A calming playlist with your favorite music when you’re in labor
    2. An LED candle, just to add that peaceful touch to the hospital room
    3. A robe that you love
