Design Inspiration: Displaying Your Books

This month I’m making some major changes to my work environment and moving my work office into my house. Besides packing up and moving big items, this move is forcing me to look inside and organize every closet, cupboard and corner of my house. I need to maximize the space.

Unfortunately it’s created a bigger problem as well. I’ve had to come face to face with my addiction to books. I love having them around for a variety of reasons: I love the resources of knowledge they provide, I love the covers of books, I love escaping by reading a good book and I feel no guilt when I purchase them. It’s an easy addiction to fall into. But it begins to pose a problem when the word hoarder comes to mind. {Doesn’t the word “hoarder” give you nightmares and visions of people getting lost inside their homes under piles of treasures while a reality show comes knocking at their door to do an intervention with the help of the person’s family? It does me.}

So to prevent my children from doing some kind of book intervention in the future, I’m looking for a unique and creative way to display my treasure of books.  Here’s some of my favorite ideas.

Love the idea of using the wasted space between corner windows for a bookcase.

This is my personal favorite-a wall of diagonal bookshelves.

Love this office bookcase-everything is inside a basket or container-so clean looking.

What a clever use of under the staircase space.

Books stored under a levitating sofa-how genius!

Rose L. Bingham - Well, the amount of books in my house is just huge. I need them for my work all the time and I have to by more and more. Recently I have decided to re-arrange my apartment and all these advice are very useful for me) I’m really thinking of building something like under the stair case shelves. I think they will help me greatly. Thanks a lot!
