2012 Christmas Decor Trend: Recycled and Upcycled

One of our favorite Christmas trends of 2012, is Recycled and Upcycled. The nice thing about this trend is that you can tweak the decor to look rustic, modern, minimalist, traditional (or whichever style you prefer). Some of my favorite recycled and upcycled DIY ideas include turning salt and pepper shakers into snow globes, copies of music into a Christmas chain, old scrabble game pieces into Christmas sayings, and newspaper into a leaf wreath.

I feel like this trend allows you to get creative with your trash (or Goodwill pile). For example, we turned our excess water bottles into a poinsettia garland and the soda cans in our recycle bin into Christmas ornaments.

What are some of the things you’ve recycled or upcycled? Would any of them work well with Christmas decor?

neva - I love this. I often thought that upcycled Christmas decor dosen’t get enough attention durring the holidays ( or at all for that matter ) I’m a NC artist & create solely using upcycled materials – Feel free to check out my etsy shop for more excellent upcycling inspiration, or try these ornate ornaments upcycled from vintage spoons https://www.etsy.com/listing/109437810/ornate-iridescent-spoon-ornaments
