Link to A Simple Decor Thing…

My decor tip today is very simple. If you want to add a little “punch” to your decor-add a decorative wastebasket-especially in rooms like your home office, the bedrooms and bathrooms.

Instead of using the most popular style of wastebasket found at the Bella Fine’ offices…

May I suggest the following?

Ballard Designs’ Quilted Bee Wastebasket is crafted of recycled metal and hand painted using a meticulous, 18-step French tole process.

A chic and modern wastebasket decoupaged in Kelly Wearstler’s Imperial Trellis. Like I mentioned a couple of weeks ago geometric patterns are so popular right now. This is one way to incorporate the look without spending a lot of money.

This embossed croc nail headed waste paper basket from Dransfield and Ross is perfect for a home office.

My personal favorite is this Mirrored wastebasket and tissue holder set. I love the look of antiqued mirror.

For a more modern look and feel this Black and White Dot Modern style wastebasket will certainly be a fun accessory to add to your decor.

This elegant Morrocan inspired wastebasket is perfect for a richly decorated room with silks and a middle eastern flair.

I love the colors and style of this Hot Pink Damask decoupaged wastebasket!  How cute for a little girls room.

How about this Rooster wastebasket for your kitchen desk or laundry room? That is…if you’re a Rooster lover.

Think outside the wastebasket box and use a large clay pot. This white pot from Ben Wolff Pottery has scalloped edges which makes it perfect for a decorative wastebasket.

Like I always say…it’s the little things you use to decorate that make the room’s decor “over the top”.

Happy Decorating!

Link to Spruce it up 4 Spring!

Spring is right around the corner. For us folks in Arizona, it has been here on and off since January but now that its officially MARCH I am ready to SPRUCE IT UP. For the next few days I will be sharing some info about sprucing up your home decor as the weather changes and colors seems to hit nature Full Force.

*Spruce up the Bedroom*

Your bedroom should be a sanctuary, a refuge, a peaceful retreat, and for some a romantic getaway! There are a few cheap and easy ways to make your room feel renewed and fresh as the season changes.

1.) CLEAN UP THE BEDSIDE TABLE!

Remove the clutter, books, water-bottles, Kleenex, and hair clips from your bedside table and add a VASE OF FRESH CUT SPRING FLOWERS and a SCENTED CANDLE.

2.) STRIP IT DOWN

Replace the heavy winter duvet cover with brightly colored, mixed sheets and pillows. Many people like to pack the blankets on during the winter months… well people, its time to strip it down! INFUSE your room with color.

3.) AIR IT OUT!

Open the closet doors, armoires, and drawers. Let the old air out and bring the new air in. To freshen up musty dresser drawers, chest or armoires add some new scented sachets.

Link to Simply Orchids…

I love the simple beauty of orchids!

Camberley recently gave me an orchid for Valentines Day-and it reminded me again of how much I love the simple beauty of these flowers. As you can see the orchids she gave me have a great combination of colors. Her gift is now serving as the  inspiration for the color sheme that I’m using for Bella Fine’s new design studio.

Orchids are so versatile-they can be used in so many different ways. You can cut them and put them into a vase. They mix so nicely with other type of flowers too.

Orchids are great to use in a bathroom on the counter or by a big tub. Their beauty is so simple that you will find that they don’t take away from the overall design look of the room. They supplement it!

How about putting an orchid on a bedside table? They take up little space and add just a hint on color.

Orchids look fabulous on a coffee table when grouped with low objects like books and spheres.

Orchids are also a great fit for entry tables-especially since entry tables are generally more narrow and orchids can be planted in small pots.

Orchids are not the easiest potted flowers to keep alive.  If you are someone who likes to have the “real thing” I’ve found that some of our local stores like Fresh n’ Easy or Trader Joe’s have orchids that are very reasonably priced. Or if you don’t want to have to replace your orchids when they die-I’d suggest that you go for the “faux” variety. It’s amazing how real they look and feel.

So my “simple” decorating tip for the day is this:  If you want to freshen a room and add somethat that’s inexpensive-it’s simply as easy as adding an orchid.

Happy Decorating!
