Homemade Baby Food: Pear Puree

I realize a lot of our readers may be professional homemade baby food makers; however, I’ve recently talked to a few new moms who are about to start their little ones on solids and they’re not sure where to start. So, today I’m going to share a basic recipe for pears.

One of the first foods Josephine fell in love with was pears. She still isn’t a huge fan of bananas, which I think is odd. I just assumed all babies love bananas. The moment pears touch her lips, her arms get stiff and she starts humming, “Mmmmmmmmm”. I’ve found that pears are a great way to sweeten some of her other foods like carrot, sweet potato and butternut squash.

I love having pears on hand for Jo’s food, because they make a good mid-morning snack for me! They’re my latest addiction.

Brenna - Glad to read this post. My little one is due in October and I’ve been thinking (in the way back of my mind) about making my own baby food, but obviously, I am a ways off from actually doing it. Seems so simple, but so worth it. Jo is such a cutie. Lucky her she has a good mama! Thanks for sharing Camberley!

Design Studio: Decorating Secret No. 2

A few weeks back I shared a design secret from an article I read on House Beautiful. {Quick reminder of idea #1: the perfect space between your mantel and mirror is 7 inches} Today I share idea No. 2 and some of my favorite ideas for implementing this “secret” in your home.

Seems so logical that you would want to keep your collectibles together. However, before you rush to set out the salt and pepper shakers you’ve gathered over the years, you need to understand  that  it takes planning and following a few simple design rules to take your collection from appearing tacky to looking like an artistic display. Whether your passion is tiny treasures or oversize artifacts, here are ideas for displaying, organizing, and storing your favorite collections so they gather compliments—not dust.

Debs - Thanks Kim! I loved the ideas in the post-especially the globes with the animal heads. Thinking of doing it in my husband’s office someday.

Fashion: 2012 Baby Girl Clothes

Sometimes I wish I could blow thousands hundreds of dollars on clothes for Josephine without feeling overwhelming guilt. Instead, I visit online stores, fill my shopping cart, and abandon them. Somehow, this makes me feel better – if only for a moment.

Today, I found myself visiting Zara again. I love how delicate and simple a lot of their little girl clothes are. Here are some of the items I wish I could buy for the fall. Unfortunately, I just can’t justify $30+ dollars on shoes for Josephine right now. I don’t think she’ll wear them enough.

audrey cooper - I have bought so many clothes for Little L at Zara and still to this day have not been able to bring myself to buy there adorable shoes, $30.00 for kid shoes is a waste of money, but who knows, I may have a weak moment one of these days.

Marianne Overton - I do the same thing!!! Abandon online shopping carts, that is. And now that I have three girls I wish I had bought the “nice” baby things rather than the cheap stuff. It’s all lasted fine, but I wouldn’t have felt so guilty spending a little extra cash on something if I had known it would go through (at least) three girls. So now when I buy for Sage, sometimes I splurge on stuff. :)
