DIY: Muslin Bag Valentine’s Day Cards

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I thought it would be fun to repost some of our projects from last year. These muslin valentine’s day cards were one of my favorite DIYS. The beauty of iron-on paper is it allows you to customize sayings, names and artwork on your cards.

DIY Muslin Bag Valentine

Move over Dallan, I have a new love in my life.  Iron-On Transfer Paper.  Who cares about the baby I’m birthing this week.

Since my recent Iron-On Transfer Paper purchase, I’ve been brainstorming DIY Valentine’s crafts. One of my ideas was to make small Valentine’s Day Cards from Muslin bags.  So, I stopped by my friend Amazon.com and ordered up a Muslin bag storm.  Everyone needs 100+ Muslin Bags in their craft supply closet, right?

Once the muslin bags arrived, I started playing around with different sayings I could print out (I couldn’t have done this step without Kiersten’s help. Thanks boobie!).

Brenna - Cute! My all time favorite Valentines Day saying is “You’re my fun-guy” with a cute little mushroom graphic. So stink’n cheesy and cute all at the same time!

camberley - Brenna- I LOVE that saying! I may just have to make something that says that.

My 2013 New Year’s Resolution

I spend late summer and fall romanticizing Christmas. I imagine cozy, rainy days, mugs filled with peppermint hot chocolate and marshmallows, snuggling under a blanket next to the Christmas tree, burning Christmas candles… Then, once the Christmas season gets here, I find that reality doesn’t live up to the picture I’ve painted in my head.

I don’t just do this with Christmas. I do it with almost every holiday. Maybe my expectations are too high? Or, maybe, I don’t take time to notice all of the little bits of joy going on around me?

I don’t typically set New Year’s Resolutions for myself- because I feel like we should be setting goals and working towards accomplishing them year round. However, this recent inner reflection has lead me to believe that I need to pause throughout the day and take note of the things going on around me. A slight breeze, sunlight, laughter… Instead of romanticizing the future, I need to live in the moment and enjoy it.

DIY: Glittered Cranberry Wreath Ornaments

I went overboard on the Cranberry purchases. So I’ve been making cranberry treats, drying out cranberries for simmering potpourri, and now I’m making cranberry Christmas ornaments. Here is one of my cranberry ornament projects – Glittered Cranberry Wreaths.

This project is super easy to assemble; all you really do is string cranberries on a wire. You can leave them as they are, or you can paint Mod Podge on them and roll them in glitter, which actually seemed to preserve the cranberries for a little longer. Use them for party decorations, and then just throw them away. Below is a list of materials and directions on how to make them.

Jen - What a fun and unsual decoration! And super simple so great to make with the kids, thank you we always have way too many cranberries and I never know what to do with them all!

Recipe: Quick & Easy Sugared Cranberries

I bought bags of cranberries last week, and have been trying to come up with some creative ways to use them all. I’ve already used some as decoration (post coming soon) and simmering potpourri – so I decided it was only appropriate that I whip these berries up as a sweet snack.

These sugared cranberries are cranberries with a little kick. They make great party favors or toppings! Sprinkle them over a few scoops of vanilla ice cream, or on top of a chocolate cake. The sugared coating balances out the flavor so that it is not too tart. Click below to continue reading this quick and easy recipe.
