Recipe: Triple Chocolate Peppermint Cookies

Now that Thanksgiving has passed, it’s out with the Pumpkin and in with the Peppermint. One of my favorite things about the Christmas season is waking up early (while it’s still dark out), turning on the Christmas Tree, and sipping on a large mug of Peppermint Hot Chocolate. There’s nothing like a little chocolate to get your day started right.

My intention with this recipe, was to replicate the flavors from my Christmas “Cup of Joe”. So, I added chocolate, more chocolate, more chocolate, and peppermint to these little yum yums. Next time I make these cookies, I might incorporate some cream cheese into the mix – because who doesn’t love adding more calories to their cookies? Dieting this time of year is so difficult for me. Sigh.

Inside FHR: Josephine’s New Tricks

Last night, I decided to burn Josephine’s last waking hours by running errands. In an attempt to cram some dinner into her little belly, we quickly stopped for some food. As a first time parent, I’ve come to learn that dinner with a 10.5 month old is never quick. She loves to munch on her own time, wave to strangers, and take in the world around her with those big hazelish eyes.

Since #1 mom forgot to bring the sippy cup into the food joint, I had to improvise. So, I resorted to using my pointer finger to trap water in a straw; then, I would drop the water into her mouth – like a baby bird. I could tell Josephine loved the feel of the water trickling over her tongue. She continued to open her mouth as wide as it would go, leaning in the direction of the straw. After taking three or four drinks like this, I saw an imaginary light bulb go off in her head. Getting a huge pumpkin grin across her face, she pursed her lips in a thin line and slowly opened the outer corners — letting the water dribble out of the edges of her mouth. As the water made its way down her little chin she let out a startling, “haaa, haaaa, ha, ha, ha”.

Over the last week, she’s become quite the jokester. She’s constantly trying to get a laugh out of her audience. If she gets a good reaction, she’ll give herself a standing ovation and then do it all over again. One of the joys of parenting.

DIY: Artificial Floral Branch Christmas Ornaments

I was at Hobby Lobby the other day and found tons of fun supplies for making Christmas ornaments! I bought a plethora of goodies, but ended up leaving a bag at the store… Ya, it stinks, but I did have enough of what I bought to crank out these babies. These ornaments literally took me three minutes to make. So if you’re not feeling super energetic or creative, try making these Christmas lovelies.  All you have to do is buy a few things at a craft store. Directions and Materials are listed below.

DIY: Felt Rosette Christmas Ornament

Christmas is more than just a day, it’s a season, and ’tis the season to whip out that old Christmas tree and decorate like there’s no tomorrow. However, rather than using those old ornaments from years ago, these felt rosette Christmas ornaments are a really great way to mix it up a bit. Not only do they look really pretty, but they are homemade and a fun way to exercise your creativity. You could even host a fun family night making some of these ornaments for your tree. For directions on how to make this fun ornament, read on.
