I wore my first skirt of the season to school yesterday. I’m pretty sure my legs were angry with me, considering they aren’t ready to be out in the open after hibernating all winter. I couldn’t help but love the feeling of femininity that the skirt gave me, so I wore it anyways.

I often get the, “Well aren’t you dressed up!” comment, but in all honesty I am just more comfortable in a dress or skirt. I recently stumbled upon the most gorgeous vintage floral dress, and it confirmed my decision to wear such items even with the awkward comments I receive. Although it was made with such a wild garden-themed print, it looks dainty and charming, which are the exact things I look for in a dress. I wish I could clone it for Easter this year.

Secret Squirrel has a delightful Botanica collection that is a bit more modern than the dress above. I thought the  prints were pretty and some of the solid pieces are even more dazzling. And don’t get me started on their winter 2012 collection– be still my heart!

Oh, and did you know that Anthropologie has a Garden Party themed section on their site? Florals are where it’s at I guess. Plus, let us not forget that floral prints are way less maintenance than the real thing– a good excuse to buy some!

New York Fashion Week is upon us! I can only imagine the pools of creative energy flowing throughout New York city right now, and since I am stuck here attending class and feeding a husband, I will be doing the next best thing– stalking the designers and their collections!

The Wall Street Journal’s Heard on the Runway has been keeping me connected. So far I’ve read about brilliant colors, New York elegance, and less-busier looks hitting the runway. And as for Mr. Hilfiger?  He’s going for military prep and sporting life this year. All of this will be among 200 other collections debuted on the runway during NYFW.

I’ll be peeking at what the WSJ has to say in the next couple of days, and let you know if I find anything noteworthy!

Yesterday, Debs shared a post about the color Tangerine Tango. It had me thinking about how much I LOVE bright colors. In fact, I am taking an elective art class right now in school and we’re discussing the effect color has on our moods. Most of us know this. Anyway, what I didn’t know was that it can also change our body temperatures, or at least how we perceive our body temperature. For example, a study was conducted with a group of people in an office building that were complaining about it being too cold. Instead of changing the actual temperature inside the building, the “conductors” chose to change the wall color. They changed it from blue to red, and guess what? No more complaints.

I don’t know where I am going with this story… other than color is awesome. And it looks like bright pastels and fluorescent are in the forecast for Spring 2012.

Happy Friday everyone!

I have always loved the holidays, but for some reason I have been a total bah humbug this year. I am not sure if it is because of the lack of cold weather and snow, or if I am a total grinch face… could be both… but it hasn’t felt like the holiday season at all.

So tonight I threw some Michael Buble holiday music on the iPod dock, whipped out an apron, and made a homemade meal complete with a large batch of salsa. Salsa always reminds me of Christmas time because I use to sell jars of it in early December to earn some money for gifts. You all need to get Keighley to tell you about her Luminaire business. We were total entrepreneurs in our household come Christmas time!

In addition to making a homemade meal, I put up my “Believe” blocks– compliments of Debs– and a few ornaments strung on ribbon. And guess what? Things are lookin’ a little more cheery and bright in my holiday world.

I look forward to the day when we own a larger living space so I can host a Christmas sweater party, but first I must scratch this bah humbug itch! Surely, when the time comes, you will all be invited!

What are some of your holiday traditions?
