Okay, so maybe this type of “Hurricane” is in season year round. 

Last month, Keighley and I were meandering through a local Dollar Tree when we spotted Glass Hurricanes for $1.  (Us?  Dollar Tree? Shocking!)  As soon as our eye-winkers landed on these glass gems, we knew we had to have them. 

Camberley: I’m grabbing a few of these babies.

Keighley: Ditto.  Can’t go wrong.

Camberley: We should dress them up for the Holidays.

Keighley: Agreed. Let’s do it.

Right there, on that measly little Dollar Tree aisle, two DIY decor projects were born (Two = Keighley’s Idea + My Idea). 

Readers, meet my Holiday Hurricane.  Holiday Hurricane, meet our Readers.  This little peach may be on display from fall to Christmas.  Just you wait…

HOLIDAY HURRICANE

Materials:

1. Glass Hurricanes (Dollar Tree)
2. Candles (Walmart)
3. Moss Variety Pack (Hobby Lobby) The below picture shows moss I purchased from Dollar Tree; however, I like the Moss Variety Pack better.
4. Small Pinecones (Hobby Lobby)
5. Raffia (Hobby Lobby)
6. Glue Gun & Glue Sticks. Not pictured below.

Directions:

1. Place candles in jar and decide where you want your raffia on the hurricane. (i.e. Below the candle or above the candle?)  Mark this spot with a dab of hot glue (eyeliner/lip-liner works great too) so you don’t loose your spot.
2. Take about 10-12 pieces of raffia and wrap them around the glass.  Keep tweaking the placement of the raffia until you are pleased with how it looks.
3. Place a dollop of hot glue on to front of glass and glue down one side of the raffia in it.  Let dry.  Wrap raffia and glue the other side.  Let dry.  If you look at the below picture, you’ll see that I glued the right side of the raffia, wrapped the raffia around the hurricane; then, I glued the left side of the raffia down.  Criss-crossing it the left piece over the right piece. 

   

4. Glue pinecones.  If you look closely at my pinecone clusters, you’ll see that I broke most of my pine cones.  Some pinecones have the top half cut off of them.  Some pinecones have the bottom half cut off of them.  Play with your pinecones as you go.  Cut, glue, create.
5. Cut ends off raffia. So they are hidden behind the pinecones.
6. Add moss to the hurricane.
7. Voila!

• 1 Bundle of Raffia $5.00 (I have a lot of leftover raffia, which will be great for future projects)
• 1 Bag of Small Pinecones $5.00 (I have leftover pinecones for future projects as well)
• 1 Bag of Assorted Moss $5.00 (Leftovers!)

Total = $24.00
